Growing up in Denver, Amy Adams began her acting career doing musicals such as Crazy for You. She was spotted by a director for Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, and wound up appearing in shows such as Good News and Brigadoon in Minnesota.

From there, she went to Hollywood in 1999, where after six weeks of auditioning, Adams landed her first job, a TV show called Manchester Prep. Unfortunately, it never aired, but was reworked into a straight-to-video movie called Cruel Intentions 2 and released in 2000.

She went on to land a role in a pilot for the sitcom Grosse Point, which made it on the air, but without the participation of Adams, who was let go during filming.

Devastated at the time, Adams redeemed herself by winning guest spots on TV shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, That ’70s Show, Charmed, Providence and Smallville before gaining a small role in the feature film Serving Sara (2002) and playing Leonardo DiCaprio‘s fiancée — in Catch Me If You Can (2002).

For the 2004/2005 Fall TV season, she became a regular on the short-lived Rob Lowe series Dr. Vegas, but when it ended, quickly moved back to features, playing Debra Messing‘s self-absorbed sister in The Wedding Date (2005). However, it was her role as the needy but endearing Ashley in the independent film Junebug (2005) that brought her the most attention. Critics raved about her performance and she went on not only to win the Special Jury Prize at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival and a Broadcast Frilm Critics Association Award, but her first Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Since then, Adams has completed roles in movies such as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) and Enchanted (2007). In 2009 she received her second Academy Award nomination for her work in Doubt (2008) and in 2011 she received her third for The Fighter. Some of her other recent roles include The Muppets (2011) with Jason Segel, Trouble with the Curve (2012) with Clint Eastwood and On the Road (2012) with Kristen Stewart. For her work in The Master (2012) opposite Joaquin Phoenix, she received her fourth Academy Award nomination. Adams will also be taking on the coveted role of Lois Lane in the 2013 Superman film Man of Steel.

She became engaged to her longtime boyfriend, actor Darren Le Gallo, on July 24, 2008. In 2010, Adams gave birth to the couple’s first child, a girl, Aviana Olea Le Gallo.
